PAPERMAKING CLASSES/WORKSHOPSSchedule for Summer-Winter 2005All classes: No experience necessary. All materials provided. ADULTS: Feather River Art Camp Handmade Paper & Mixed Media. Covers papermaking basics, with emphasis on handmade paper as an artistic medium. Collect & process the locally available plant fibers into paper while exploring media (watercolors, acrylics, found objects) and techniques (painting, collage, monotype). Cabins with electricity, 3 meals a day, swimming in Spanish Creek. Class meets 3 hours per day, open-air studio available at all times. All 10 instructors will give workshops in their disciplines. At Linda痴 North Oakland studio WORKSHOP: PAPERMAKING WITH PLANTS This workshop focuses on processing plant fibers for papermaking, including grasses, barks, and plants. It will include an overall introduction to "kitchen counter" papermaking, covering basic equipment, fiber sources, pulp handling, sheet formation and creative applications of the papermaking process. Participants will make their own mold & deckle & use it to produce at least 6 different paper samples. Saturday, August 20, 10:00-4:00. $60, $20 materials fee CLASSES: HANDMADE PAPER & MIXED MEDIA. These classes will cover papermaking basics as well as a variety of media & techniques that can be combined with papermaking to create art. We値l work with several different types of pulp, including cotton/rag, abaca, kozo and our own cooked plant pulps, while applying both traditional and alternative approaches to papermaking. Participants will be encouraged to explore a wide range of media, including watercolor, acrylics and colored pencils and experiment with various techniques, including collage, painting, and monotype. 8 Wednesdays, September 14-November 9, (No class 10/26) 7-9:30 PM. $160, $15 materials fee 6 Wednesdays, September 14-October 26,1-4:00 PM. $130, $15 materials fee WORKSHOP: LUMINARIES FOR THE WINTER SOLSTICE--"Let There Be Light!" Participants will make translucent handmade paper and use it to create luminaries: elegant cylinders of handmade paper illuminated from within by candles that bring the paper alive (each person makes a minimum of 4 luminaries). August 1-5: Papermaking
We値l make paper & do artwork incorporating a variety of media (watercolor, acrylics, rubber stamps, etc.) & techniques (collage, monotype, painting, sculpture, embossing, etc.) We値l process organic matter into paper (including willow, mulberry & eucalyptus). We値l make several types of books, prints, cards & envelopes, bowls, sculpture & ART ART ART! August 8-12: Textile Art
We値l experiment with a variety of materials & ways to color/put imagery on fabric, including tie-dying, painting, stenciling/stamping & batik. Each student will produce at least 2 t-shirts & at least 2 pillows, plus MORE. Linda also teaches in several after-school programs in the East Bay & occasionally conducts workshops for parents & children at her studio. Contact Linda for further information. |
